Thanks for stopping in! I hope you’ll hang out for a while and check out some of the content. I’m a freelance journalist, copywriter and author who loves a good story and believes every business has one to tell. I’ve been told that I connect with my clients and their audiences. I’m a stickler about deadlines, so you can count on me to see a project through from ideation to delivery. That applies to the book vision that starts with interviews and ends with a title for sale on Amazon.com—and to the website project that begins with a blank screen and involves culminating a creative team to roll out an engaging online presence. It means digging deep during magazine interviews with sources to tease out details that bring a story to life.

I started WriteHand Co. in 2004 after serving as an editor for several years. Since then, I’ve been recognized as “Best In Ohio: Freelancer” by the Press Club of Cleveland, and before that, a Young Scholar by the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE). I’m a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) and served on the Cleveland board of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). I also help out various community organizations with their writing needs.

Magazine

You may have picked up a magazine with my byline in it. I contribute monthly to Cleveland Magazine, and have been published in trade journals and consumer magazines: Fortune, Entrepreneur, Cooking Light, Ladies’ Home Journal, Vogue Knitting, Consumers Digest and HGTV.com. I have interviewed a range of personalities, from the co-founder of Samuel Adams Brewing Co. to Chef Michael Symon and leading cardiologist and FDA watchdog Steven Nissen, M.D., Cleveland Clinic. I talked with the original Apprentice and sat across the table from Forest City Enterprises/Cleveland legend Sam Miller.

“Kristen is a talented writer and reporter who enhances any assignment she takes on. Her writing is not only informative, but vibrant and entertaining, representing the highest standards of journalistic excellence. A former editor, Kristen understands the importance of meeting deadlines and following through on commitments. Her assignments require little or no editing since she takes great pride in her work.”

-Dan Moreland, executive vice president, GIE Media

Content Marketing

As a trained journalist, I’m practiced in the art of the interview. That means I ask a lot of questions—and do a lot of listening. Taking a journalistic approach to content marketing results in copy that engages an audience. It’s stuff they care about, stories they can learn from. Effective content marketing builds an audience and converts those readers into raving fans. Done right, content marketing should deliver measurable ROI for businesses that invest in creating quality copy.

“All of us at Landscape Leadership love working with Kristen, our clients included. She’s a true professional. We can put an assignment in her hands and know that she will deliver for us.”

-Chris Heiler, president of inbound content marketing firm, Landscape Leadership

Copywriting

Need a writer on your team to create copy for marketing and branding materials, a website or blog? I partner with a range of businesses from nonprofit organizations like Cleveland Clinic to insurance leaders like MarshBerry, creative agencies and small businesses.

“designRoom has been working with Kristen for over 10 years on creating content for our clients. She works through our creative team or directly with our clients. (That’s how much I trust Kristen to take care of them.) Amazing attention to detail. She is a serious part of our success on delivering killer creative to our clients on time and on budget.”

-Kelly Farrell, founder and president, designRoom Creative

I author books on behalf of professionals who want to tell their stories. That includes titles for business leaders, physicians and consultants. Check out the book department here for the latest titles.
